Container Labeling

In general, containers of chemicals must be labeled with the identity of the contents and appropriate hazard warnings. The hazard warnings can be words, pictures, or symbols which provide an immediate understanding of the primary health and/or physical hazard(s) of the material. Many manufacturers have designed unique labeling systems to provide the user with valuable information about their products. This section includes generic information from some chemical manufacturers. Please insert other pertinent information on container labeling systems in this section.

The NIOSH criteria document AN IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM FOR OCCUPATIONALLY HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (Publication No. 75126) is a resource available for use in designing labels, if needed.
